My Tessaiga.

Made by me.

Measurements based on images -

Blade - 6 feet 2 inches

Width - 6 inches

Handle - 10 inches

Overall - 7 feet

Weight - 2 pounds

Things to note -

▶ Tessaiga is roughly foot taller or a bit more than the wielder

✅ Entire blade curves.

❎ Not a straight blade with only the tip curved.

- When held on the shoulder it’s shorter than head length, like in -most- of the images.

- Can be swung with one hand, no problem. Just like in the series. You can even run with it one-handed.

- Has a hard outer shell. Not fiberglass sheets or Bondo.

❎ I did not do foam>Fiberglass>Bondo as it’s a very unforgiving process when it comes to my perfection on the shape and probably not as light as I would like it ta be.

- Plan is to have special sleeves to change its form whenever rather than making multiples as this process was incredibly annoying.

- Was constantly tested for proper weight. So it’s not top-heavy.

- Inu-Yasha -

I thought I was the only one besides one other person who knew From Far Away! I loved the aspect that Noriko had to actually learn a foreign language from scratch as well. Having culturally diverse characters that speak differently from one another are so much fun to watch. I wish I was more familiar with Japanese so I could better appreciate characters who speak non-standard Japanese as well. It just doesn't always carry over well in translation.

OMG SAME; I never thought I’d ever meet someone on tumblr who knows “From Far Away”! And yes, I, too, loved the fact that this series elaborated on the language barrier/communication problem and showed us the whole process of learning a completely new language in a completely strange world! It’s a shame that a lot of popular mainstream “summoned into a strange world” series just skip over the language aspect and instead take the easy way out by having the characters all speak Japanese :///

OMG THIS^^^ It’s my favourite topic, so please let me ramble about it. So if we take this scene from “From Far Away” as example, there’s a detail that got a bit lost in the English translation:

When Izark says “I don’t understand what you are saying” in the first panel, he actually uses masculine speech (「何を言ってるか分からん」), a rough, manly way of speaking. But then, as soon as he realizes that Noriko is trying to learn the language by repeating what Izark says, he slightly changes said phrase to “何を言っているか分かりません” which is a way more polite way to say “I don’t understand what you are saying”. So in that short ellipsis (“….”) in the third panel, he must have thought something like “Oh she’s learning from me, I better teach her polite speech then” - which is so cute and also tells a lot about Izark’s sincere personality. It’s really a pity that this subtle but cute detail wasn’t conveyed well in the English translation x(

Anyway, sorry for rambling, I got too excited because it’s my favourite series, my favourite scene and my favourite language topic xD

“What’s up guys? Another live video. This time, I’m with… you guessed it! The one and only [Y/N]! But… she’s camera shy and is hiding behind the couch. So let’s go say hi to her!” Tom grinned, running behind the couch and putting the camera up to your face.

“Tom,” you groaned, trying to push him away.

“Nope! Not until I get a kiss!”

Rolling your eyes, you couldn’t help but smile at how adorable Tom was.

“Fine.”

Leaning over, you gave him a quick kiss on the cheek.

“Now go away,” you laughed, lightly shoving him.

“Wait! What? No! That’s not fair!” Tom said, pouting.

“I gave you a kiss. A deal’s a deal,” you giggled.

Rolling his eyes, Tom leaned in and gave you a quick kiss on the forehead.

“You owe me,” he grinned, before leaving the room to continue his live video.

“Okay! Soooo… This is the kitchen, this is the backyard, and th-”

As his voice faded away, you couldn’t help but smile and wonder how you’d gotten so lucky.
